Toronto police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 69-year-old man found in the driveway of a North York home on Monday morning.
During a news conference on Monday afternoon, police confirmed that Mariano De-Marco was found suffering from a gunshot wound in front of a residence on Fairholme Avenue, near Lawrence Avenue West and Allen Road shortly after 4 a.m.
The victim was first located by a parking enforcement officer, police said, and was pronounced dead shortly after first-responders arrived on scene.
Police have not released any information on possible suspects.
“I believe that this shooting was targeted. The reason for that I can’t elaborate on at this point,”
Det. Sgt. Aaron Akeson told reporters at the scene.
Akeson said investigators are urging anyone with video surveillance footage from the area to contact police.
“We’ve spoken to several people in the area that have provided different types of information. We are pleased with the cooperation that we’ve been receiving,” he said.
“I would suspect that in the area where this occurred there are several video cameras.”
He added that police have invested a “significant amount of resources” in solving the case.
“Mr. DeMarco has a family,” Akeson said.
“He is a father, a grandfather, an uncle and there are a lot of people that a very upset by his death which is part of the reason we are putting so many resources into trying to figure out exactly what happened to him this morning.”
