A Toronto police officer is in hospital after they were exposed to possible fentanyl while responding to an assault call.
Police said the officer was called to the area of Eglinton Avenue East and Mount Pleasant Road just after 5 a.m.
After they arrived at the scene, police said, the officer came into contact with a “toxic drug,” which may have been the powerful synthetic opioid fentanyl.
Narcan, the medicine that can reverse an opioid overdose, was administered and the officer was transported to hospital, police said.
The officer’s injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
It’s unclear how exactly the officer was exposed to the drug, and police haven’t said if any charges have been laid in relation to the assault call.
Toronto Paramedic Services told CP24 that at least one other person was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
