Get ready, Toronto! A huge new music venue is coming to the city’s north end, and organizers say it will attract “more world-class artists than ever.”
On Thursday, September 26, Live Nation announced plans to build a massive open-air stadium with room for 50,000 people in the city’s north end.
The new venue, Rogers Stadium, will be located on the former Downsview Airport lands, right next to Downsview Park, and will open as early as June 2025.
According to Erik Hoffman, an executive at Live Nation Canada, Rogers Stadium is designed to host some of the world’s biggest artists. He told Global News that the stadium will also have all the must-have amenities, like food and drink options, making it a full-on experience from start to finish.
Live Nation shared the news on social media, saying, “Introducing Rogers Stadium, a seasonal outdoor concert venue opening at YZD (formerly Downsview Airport Lands) in 2025! With Toronto as a must-play market for top-level tours, Rogers Stadium will host more world-class artists than ever. Follow for exciting announcements!”
The stadium will only operate during certain months of the year, so you can probably expect it to be packed during concert season. The Downsview Airport lands are also getting a makeover from Northcrest, which includes plans for new housing, so this part of the city is going to look very different in the next few years.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford was optimistic about what this could mean for the city and the province. On X, formerly Twitter, he wrote, “Starting next year, this new stadium will be a key attraction that will help create jobs, attract visitors and bring world-class performers and acts to our province.”
Ford, along with Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Stan Cho, and Mayor Olivia Chow, attended the official announcement. Cho called it a “top destination for international tours and live entertainment, drawing world-class artists and fans from around the globe.”
So, whether you’re a fan of pop, rock, or anything in between, keep an eye on Rogers Stadium. Toronto’s summer concert lineup could be about to get a lot more interesting!
