Almost two years after the province’s privacy commissioner urged Toronto to review its online publishing rules amid concerns over identity theft, the city continues to routinely make public the names, home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and signatures of Torontonians.
Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) made the review recommendation after a formal complaint from Etobicoke resident Jane Colonna, who was shocked to see all her data published on a city website with her application related to her driveway in 2019.
A bank account number, branch number and transit number used by one of Canada’s biggest builders was posted for all to see.
