Doug Ford’s appointment of York Region chair raises questions about its future

Doug Ford’s decision to appoint a former police chief — and member of the Peel transition board — as York Region’s new regional chair has some board members questioning if the province is signalling its future plans for the region.

The province’s decision to appoint Eric Jolliffe, the former chief of York Regional Police who has never held elected office and who doesn’t live in the region of 1.2 million residents, has angered some regional politicians who say the entire process has been undemocratic.
