Durham police say auto thefts down, probation offenders on the rise

Durham Police have made 341 charges against 81 people in a yearlong auto theft investigation contributing to an eight per cent decline in stolen vehicles.

Police said although the number of auto thefts has reduced in the area, their efforts are being “undermined” by the number of suspects released on bail who continue to reoffend, adding that, carjackings have increased by 13 per cent this year.
