Faith leaders speak out in support of homeless shelters after opposition to new Scarborough site

A trio of faith leaders spoke at city hall Thursday in support of plans to build new homeless shelters — and to remind people concerned about them to love thy neighbour, no matter who they might be. 

“We know from all our traditions that we have a duty to serve the needy,” said Abdul Patel, an imam and Toronto District School Board trustee. “The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said that a person whose neighbours go hungry is not among us (believers).”
