The senior Toronto police officer accused of interfering with an investigation into a relative’s crash denied any wrongdoing under questioning by an internal police investigator, adamant she wasn’t trying to influence the probe and insistent her nephew had not been drunk prior to the incident.
“I wasn’t trying to circumvent anything. I wasn’t trying to influence anyone. It’s very important to me that you know that I have never, in my life, neglected duty,” Insp. Joyce Schertzer said in an emotional interview with Toronto police professional standards in 2022.
