Massive Nathan Phillips Square revamp will have to wait as city struggles with finances, staff say

Nathan Phillips Square is in desperate need of a revamp but some elements will remain broken and grey for a while as staff grapple with tight finances, according to a city report released Tuesday.

“There is also an identified but unfunded need for the holistic preservation of (the square), which would include structural and other more extensive work,” the report said, including “rehabilitation” of the underground parking, but noted this preservation work has a construction price tag of about $68.4 million, which is largely unfunded.
