Mayor Olivia Chow asks for $5.6 million for side guards for city’s trucks: ‘It means saving lives’

Mayor Olivia Chow called on city councillors to approve $5.6 million to install side guards on all city of Toronto trucks by the end of 2026 to prevent cyclist and pedestrian deaths.

At a press conference in Fleet Services garage in Leslieville on Wednesday, Chow, joined by Coun. Paula Fletcher (Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth) and Abi Thomas, general manager of fleet services, told reporters that adding these protective railings to the underside of large trucks would save lives.
