Mayor Olivia Chow says she isn’t considering stripping Michael Thompson of one of his council roles, despite details of sexual assault allegations against him being aired in court this week.
The rare criminal trial of a sitting city councillor began Monday in Bracebridge. Thompson, the 64-year-old veteran councillor for Ward 21, Scarborough Centre, is charged with two counts of sexual assault related to events at a Muskoka cottage on Canada Day weekend in 2022. He has pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer says he “denies any and all allegations.”
