Nearly a billion dollars of new money has been earmarked for the ongoing transformation of Toronto’s waterfront, government officials say — with the new money helping fund the construction of some 14,000 homes at Quayside and the new island of Ookwemin Minising.
The $975 million deal — $325 million apiece from city hall, the province and the federal government, plus an extra $200 million from the feds to match previous city and provincial dollars — will go towards efforts like the Broadview flood protection project, as well as the new housing sites, the first of which is expected to break ground sometime next year.
