Protesters not protected by Charter, U of T lawyers argue at court hearing over encampment

Pro-Palestinian protesters who have been camping out on a University of Toronto campus for six weeks are not protected by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and should be ordered to pack up and leave, an Ontario Superior Court judge heard Wednesday.

While the protesters are expressing their political beliefs, they are doing so while trespassing on private property, lawyers for U of T argued, and as a result are not protected by the Charter.
