Protesters, pomp and circumstance: Here’s how convocation at U of T began this year

It was a day of pomp and ceremony — but also protest.

On Monday, amid a major and ongoing demonstration on its campus related to the war in the Middle East, the University of Toronto welcomed graduating students and their loved ones for a ceremony to recognize their academic achievements.

Pro-Palestinian protesters set up a convocation display in honour of University students in Gaza who will not have a graduation ceremony.

Convocation ceremonies are held in Convocation Hall looking over the grounds of King’s College Circle which are occupied by a pro-Palestinian encampment.
