Residents evacuated from Durham long-term care home due to flooding from burst pipe

Fifty-five residents have been evacuated from a long-term-care home in Newcastle, Ont., a community about 80 kilometres east of Toronto, in Clarington, to a nearby recreation complex due to overnight flooding.

The Fosterbrooke Long-Term Care Home experienced “significant water damage” after a pipe attached to its second-floor sprinkler system burst early Thursday morning, the home’s operator, Extendicare, told the Star in an email.
