Fines for one of Toronto’s most habitual traffic offences are going to dramatically hike this year, the city will announce Monday.
Drivers caught “blocking the box” can soon expect to pay $450, up from $85, if they’re ticketed by Toronto police, Mayor Olivia Chow is expected to announce at a press conference at King Street and University Avenue alongside Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie. In community safety zones, which are usually around schools, the ticket for entering a crowded intersection with no hope of clearing it by the time the light turns red will be $500, up from $120.
