Students in a York Catholic high school enrolled in Grade 12 classes with no teacher were given 100 per cent for their midterm mark, as the board struggles to address a shortage of educators.
At St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School, two teachers have been on leave for much of the semester, and in their absence, students have faced a string of substitutes. With midterms approaching, the York Catholic District School Board took the unusual step of giving Grade 12 students in affected classes — two biology classes and one business class — a mark of 100 per cent.
