‘The sound of this, you remember’: Playing of shofar marks Rosh Hashanah at Toronto synagogue’s service

A fresh breeze floated off Lake Ontario and onto a patio dressed with white folding chairs and a big white tent. There, with a swan floating past in the unseasonably warm October sun, about 125 people gathered for a service on the last day of Rosh Hashanah.

Friday’s service — held by City Shul, a synagogue that normally gathers near Grange Park in downtown Toronto — was one of many held around the city for the high holiday.
