‘They’re not dressed like police’: Wife describes fear, confusion before death of Toronto police Const. Northrup

Describing for a Toronto jury the chaotic and terrifying few minutes when she thought her family’s vehicle was under attack by robbers in the underground parking lot beneath Nathan Phillips Square, Aaida Shaikh insisted she didn’t realize they were actually being approached plainclothes Consts. Jeffrey Northrup and Lisa Forbes.

“They’re screaming, ‘Get out, get out, stop, get out,’” Shaikh, 34, testified Tuesday in court where her husband Umar Zameer is on trial for running over and killing Northrup early on July 2, 2021. The accountant, who is also 34, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.
