This state senator wants to see high-speed rail connect New York City and Toronto. How likely is it to happen?

It takes half a day to get between New York City and Toronto on Amtrak’s Maple Leaf train — at least three hours longer than it would take to drive and far longer than flying. But one state senator hopes to cut down travel time with the help of high-speed rail.

Democrat New York Sen. Jeremy A. Cooney, who represents the Rochester area, recently posted on X about his push to bring high-speed rail upstate, connecting the region to a line between New York City and Toronto.
