Toronto man’s charges upgraded to manslaughter following unprovoked fatal assault in February, police say

A 25-year-old Toronto man’s charges have been upgraded to manslaughter after an autopsy was conducted on a 50-year-old man who died after being allegedly assaulted by the suspect in February.

Toronto police say the man — who was on probation — allegedly approached a group of people on a sidewalk near Elizabeth and Dundas Streets on Feb. 27 and got into an altercation with them. He then allegedly struck one of the other men on the head, unprovoked, causing the victim to fall to the ground.
