Toronto police officers will be stationed in hospital ERs as part of new pilot program

A one-year pilot program aimed at speeding up the transfer of care of people arrested under the Mental Health Act is being launched by Toronto police alongside several Toronto hospital networks. 

The initiative will see two Toronto police district special constables placed in the emergency rooms of each partner hospital as Integrated Hospital Officers (IHOs). They will operate 18 hours a day and seven days a week.
