Trial begins for Toronto Coun. Michael Thompson over alleged Muskoka cottage sex assaults

BRACEBRIDGE, Ont.—Toronto city Coun. Michael Thompson will plead not guilty to two counts of sexual assault when his trial starts here in cottage country on Monday, two years after he was charged over the allegations of two women. 

The trial will finally shed light on what allegedly happened on Canada Day weekend 2022, when several guests attended an opulent waterfront cottage in Port Carling belonging to Thompson’s friend, well-known Toronto defence lawyer Calvin Barry, who was not present that weekend. (Barry briefly represented Thompson but removed himself as counsel due to their friendship.)
