Trial closes in case of GTA man who lit his wife on fire, killed his mother-in-law and left his kids in a burning home

A father of three should be convicted of first-degree murder for starting the house fire that maimed his wife and killed his mother-in-law, a prosecutor said at the close of a Brampton trial.

Meanwhile, the defence argued Helder Vertentes-Arruda was experiencing a drug-induced psychosis that clouded his ability to know that his actions could kill — meaning he cannot be found guilty of murder.
