‘We have to act now’: Deaths of two snowy owls at Tommy Thompson Park re-ignites calls for rodenticide ban

A local nature photographer who found two dead snowy owls at Tommy Thompson Park last month is calling on the city to ban rodenticides as wildlife and conservation authorities await further testing to determine the exact cause of the animals’ deaths. 

Steven Shpak, who often visits the downtown waterfront park to capture moments of wildlife, said his “heart dropped” when he stumbled upon a lifeless snowy owl on a frozen pond on Dec. 27.
