Youth murder record can’t be used against would-be Ontario lawyer, judge rules

The fact that an Ontario woman was found guilty of murder when she was a youth can’t be used to determine whether she should be a licensed lawyer, a Brampton judge has ruled.

The woman, who completed her youth sentence a decade ago and graduated from an Ontario law school, can’t be named in connection with the crime under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA.) In the judge’s decision, she is identified only as “AB.”
